Common reasons people call

Signs it’s time to bring it in

These are some of the signs that bring drivers in. None of them fix themselves — and most are cheaper to deal with early.

  • 01A new noise

Knocks, squeals, rattles or a hum that wasn't there last week.

  • 02A warning light

Check-engine, battery or temperature lights on the dash.

  • 03Rough running

Hesitation, stalling, a rough idle or a loss of power.

  • 04Something leaking

Spots under the vehicle, or fluid levels that keep dropping.

  • 05Hard starting

Slow cranking, or a vehicle that takes a few tries to fire.

  • 06A smell or smoke

Burning, hot or sweet smells, or smoke from under the hood.

In detail

Exhaust, fuel system and belts

Three kinds of repair that often start with a new noise, a smell or a change in how the engine runs:

  • Exhaust leaks and rattles. A leak can let carbon monoxide into the cabin. If anyone feels dizzy, headachy or sick, stop somewhere safe, switch off the engine, get into fresh air and call 9-1-1.
  • Fuel delivery problems. Hard starting, stalling or loss of power are worth diagnosing before parts are replaced.
  • A squealing or worn drive belt

Carbon monoxide has no smell, taste or colour, and vehicle exhaust is a source. Source

Why proper diagnosis matters

The right fix starts with the right answer

01 · Find the cause

Test, don't guess

The same symptom can come from several places. Testing narrows it to the part that's actually failing.

02 · Explain it

Know what you're paying for

You'll hear what we found and why it matters before any work goes ahead, with upfront pricing.

03 · Fix what's wrong

No parts cannon

Replacing parts until the problem goes away is expensive. Diagnosis first keeps the bill to what's needed.

FAQ

Auto Repair questions

More answers on the main FAQ page.

What vehicles do you work on?

All makes and models. If you drive something unusual, call the shop and we'll tell you straight whether we're the right fit.

Do you repair exhaust leaks and rattles?

Yes — exhaust system service is part of our regular work. If you smell exhaust inside the vehicle, open the windows, stop when it's safe, and don't keep using it until it's been inspected. If anyone feels unwell, switch off the engine, get everyone into fresh air and call 9-1-1. More on exhaust leak warning signs.

Do you do recall repairs?

Safety recall repairs are done by the manufacturer's dealers. You can check your vehicle for open recalls by VIN in Transport Canada's recall database.

Can you tell me what's wrong over the phone?

We can talk it through and tell you what it could be, but the honest answer usually needs the vehicle in the shop. That's where computerized diagnostics and a hands-on inspection come in.

How do I get a price?

Call 604-793-9310 or send a service request. Pricing depends on the vehicle and what we find, and you get it upfront before work starts.
